GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG FEDERATION OF THE PHILIPPINES

 

 

BREED SHOW RULES



The GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG FEDERATION OF THE PHILIPPINES - GSDF is the parent club of the breed, the sole body recognized by World Union of German Shepherd Associations (SV- WUSV - Welt-Union der Vereine für Deutsche Schäferhunde) in the country. GSDF objective is to ensure a uniform breed standard applies across its member organizations and more specifically; to Harmonization of attitudes and assessment of German Shepherd Dogs in breed and performance and Providing clarity of direction regarding breeding, training, upbringing, temperament, character and control of hereditary diseases as stated in the statutes of the SV (the breed’s controlling body), also to promote firm commitment to our goals generally, and particularly for the direction of the organization, the GSDF remits the following “breed show rules” which vital for the breed.

GSDF conformation shows are open to German Shepherd Dogs only and are judged according to the SV- WUSV breed standard. Landesgruppen conformation shows are accomplished through the respective Landesgruppe but under the sanctions of the GSDF.

The club promotes conformation shows for the German of Shepherd Dog in these two coat varieties: Stockhaar (standard stock coat, medium-length topcoat) and Langstockhaar mit Unterwolle (long stock coat or long hair with woolly undercoat). In conformation shows, the dogs compete (are exhibited) in separate classes and according to their hair type.

I. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1. Exhibitors or owners of the dog must need to be an up to date REGISTERED member of the GSDF to join the event.

2. All dogs (Puppies and 12 months or older) born in the Philippines must have a four generation WUSV- GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG FEDERATION OF THE PHILIPPINES (GSDF) Certified Pedigree with microchip certified on the pedigree.

3. All dogs (Puppies and 12 months or older) born outside of the PHILIPPINES must PRESENT SV - WUSV studbook/supplement (SZ) or in equivalent records of a SV-WUSV-recognized club.

4. All dogs (Puppies and 12 months or older) born outside of the PHILIPPINES must have WUSV- GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG FEDERATION OF THE PHILIPPINES (GSDF) Certified Registration.

5. Puppies under 12 months of age born outside of the PHILIPPINES with “pending” registration with GSDF must present proof of ownership and proof of sire and dam.

6. All dogs (Puppies and 12 months or older) must have anti-rabbies vaccination of not more than one (1) year and not less than fourteen (14) days from the first day of the show. this is required by law.

7. Anti - rabies vaccination certificate must be presented to the show veterinarian at check-in.

8. Dog that seem to be unhealthy or have an unhealthy appearance is PROHIBITED to join the show. Dogs must free from any indications of disease.

9. Bitches are not allowed to be shown after the 42nd day of gestation. Nursing bitches are first allowed in the show ring after the 42nd day following whelping of their puppies.

10. Dogs must be intact not spayed or neutered.

11. Dogs (Puppy and 12 months or older) must not covered by a progeny or registration ban.

12. Entry Fee must be submitted with entry forms and are non-refundable.

13. Acceptable working titles are IPO, SchH/VPG, and HGH.

II. GENERAL INFORMATION

1. All dogs in the event must be listed with complete details (names, parents, birthdate, owner’s name, breeder’s name and microchip number) in the show catalog. Cut-off date for submission of entry will be three (3) days before the 1st day of the event.

2. Copy of all required Original documents must be presented to the show registration secretariat with GSDF show entry confirmation at check-in. cut-off time for the check-in is one hour before the start of the show.

3. At the check-in exhibitors will be given an armband or bib tag number for each dog entry. 

4. The age of the dog on the 1st day of the show will determine the correct entry for each age class.

5. All dogs under show class must be ready at the ring entrance area 10 minutes before the start of the “stand for examination” of their respective show class.

6. Dogs that were shown in the “stand for examination” (individual exam) and brought out of the ring during the competition without explicit authorization from the show veterinarian and acting breed judge, will receive a rating with the notation “Insufficient” (Ungenügend) or “Unsatisfactory” and will may face possible ban or suspensions. Depending on the gravity of the offense. Notification from the judge will be send to the GSDF main office.

7. Only Fursaver collar are allowed to use. Prong collars, Dog Show Collars with Points for Right Head Position, and show dog collars with head support are not allowed on show grounds.

8. Shock collars are prohibited at all GSDF EVENTS.

9. Double handlers may not use electronic, gas or compressed air amplification devices, pistols, whips, or protection sleeves. Violations may cause the dog to be disqualified and the dog and handler will eject from the show grounds.

10. Participants are responsible for preventing their dog from coming into contact with other dogs. The GSDF and any show organizer will not be responsible for injury or damage to any dog, or damage caused by any dog, or the theft of any dog.

11. Practice or use of the ring will be allowed on designated time only.

12. False documentation for a dog will result in the banning of the dog from the competition and possible disciplinary action.

13. All Exhibitors are required to show sportsmanlike conduct. Misleading or deceiving a Judge about the true condition of a dog may result in the banning of the dog from the competition and may face possible disciplinary action.

14. A judge is not allowed to judge any dog which they have owned or co-owned which has been in their possession within the past 12 months; is directly or indirectly imported the dog to the country.

15. A Judge’s decision is final and cannot be contested.


III. BREED SHOW CLASSES

Dogs in conformation shows compete by coat-length variety classes: Standard Coat “Stockhaar” and Long Coat “Langstockhaar mit Unterwolle.”

In every class, the Judge studies how well each dog conforms to the SV- WUSV breed standard, both in character and anatomy. Judging in each class begins with the individual stand for examination.

Dogs 12 months of age and older will be tested for gun sensitivity. Dogs that are impartial to the gun test will then proceed for the gaiting evaluation.

The dog’s age is determined by the first day of the show. Beginning with the youngest age group classes, females (Hundinen) are judged first followed by the males (Ruden). All long stock coat age 9-to12 months puppy class will be judge last after the 9-to12 puppy class standard coat. For long stock coat age 12 months - open class will judge after the Young Dog Classes.

PUPPY CLASS - VV1 to VV3 ratings are awarded for this class; dogs are placed according to quality.

I. JUNGSTEN (Baby Puppy Classes) 3 to under 6 months of age
II. NACHWUCHS Junior Puppy Classes, 6- under 9 months of age

III. NACHWUCHS Senior Puppy Class 9 to under 12 months of age 

Ratings awarded are:

1. VV1 (“Very Promising - VP”) - Dogs that conform fully to the breed standard or have minor anatomical faults.
2. VV2 (“Promising - P”) - Dogs that generally conform to the breed standard, but with clearly observable anatomic or developmental faults.
3. VV3 (“Less Promising”- LP) - Dogs that react negatively to external stimuli and/or have faults that would exclude them from breeding.

YOUNG CLASS 12 – UNDER 24 MONTHS – SG1 to SG3 ratings are awarded for this class; dogs are placed according to quality.

IV. JUGENDKLASSE Youth Classes 12 to under 18 months of age

V. JUNGHUND Young Dog Classes 18 to under 24 months of age 


Ratings awarded are:

1. Very Good (“SG 1”) - The highest rating in the Youth and Young Dog Classes for dogs that fully conform to the breed standard. Also qualified are dogs that: (a) exceed the size limitations by no more than 1 cm below or above the standard; and (b) have missing one premolar 1 or one incisor.

2. Good (“SG 2”) - Dogs that generally conform to the breed standard but with clearly observable anatomical faults. Dental faults allowed under this rating include: a. missing two premolars 1, or b. missing one premolar 1 and one incisor, or c. missing one premolar 2, or d. missing one premolar 3, or e. missing two incisors, or f. missing one premolar 2 and 1 incisor, or g. missing one premolar 2 and one premolar 1, or h. missing two premolars 2.

3. Satisfactory (“SG 3”) - Dogs which, on the day of the show, are gun sensitive or react negatively to external stimuli or which do not permit a higher rating due to their total condition, including anatomical factors.

4. “Unsatisfactory” (U) - Dogs that are gun shy, show limitations in their temperament, react negatively to external stimuli or display other shortcomings that prohibit breeding. Also, dogs that exceed size specifications by more than 1 cm below or above.




OPEN CLASSES, 24 MONTHS OR OLDER

Open Classes, 24 months or older without working title(s). V1 to V5 ratings are awarded for this class; dogs are placed according to quality. The judge may critique the dogs but a Show Rating Certificate will not be issued.

Veteran Classes, 6 years or older with working title(s) No ratings are awarded for this class, dogs are placed according to quality. The judge may critique the dogs but a Show Rating Certificate will not be issued.

Working Dog Classes, 24 months or older with working title(s) At the GSDF Sieger Show, all Working Dog class dogs must first complete a Performance Test, with a performance rating of at least “Pronounced” and “Outs.” Performance Tests are not held at Club or Regional Breed Shows.

BEST LOCAL BORN – is awarded to a Philippine bred dog which rank between 1st to 3rd Place for show classes 3 months to under 24 months, 1st to 5th Place for Open class, and VA to V Rating for GSDF National Sieger Show.


IV. HANDLER’S INFORMATION

1. All HANDLERS must be a GSDF registered member.

2. Handlers are allowed to register the Exhibitor’s dog entry at the check-in provided they must present the show entry confirmation and other required documents.

3. Only Standard Upper Uniform will be allowed to be worn during the show.

4. Numbers will only be worn in its designated spot.

5. A distance of at least one (1) meter will be maintained during the assessment and walking/running of dogs.

6. HANDLERS must pay strict attention to the request of the judge, steward and marshals.

7. HANDLERS must maintain walking pace when instructed to walk. Likewise, do the same when instructed to run. No overtaking.

8. Dogs and HANDLERS are not allowed to cross the inner boundary of the ring.

9. Only when instructed to overtake another dog will the HANDLER be allowed to go beyond the inner boundary of the ring. A distance of at least one (1) meter from the dog being passed must be maintained.

10. Double HANDLERS are not allowed inside the inner ring.

11. HANDLERS are only allowed to enter and exit on designated posted openings in the ring. (See suggested layout of the show ring)

12. No substitution of HANDLERS. Permission from the Marshal must be approved before substitution is to take place.

13. Dogs must be in the designated area/shed while individual assessment is ongoing. This is the only time where double handlers are allowed to groom, give water, and assist the HANDLERS. (See suggested layout of the show ring).

14. HANDLERS must post or stock their dogs for proper pictorial after the awarding ceremonies for each classes.

15. Misleading or deceiving information to a Judge and to any show organizer member about the true condition of a dog may result in the banning of the dog from the competition and may face possible ban or suspensions. 

16. HANDLERS are required to show sportsmanlike conduct at all times during the show. All infractions inside or during the show, including engaging in gambling and deliberate game fixing will may face possible ban or suspensions. 

 

V. CODE OF DISCIPLINE

The following system of sanctions on offenses is established to equitably categorize the offense/infraction committed, and its corresponding penalty, taking into consideration the following;

1. Wider and more flexible norm of conduct applicable to all EXHIBITORS AND HANDLERS

2. Nature of the offense

3. Gravity of the offense

4. Frequency/repetition of the offense

5. Presence and/or absence of aggravating and/or mitigating circumstances.
